Never Forget? Hochul Lights Freedom Tower Green for Muslim Heritage Month

The secular left and Islam may seem like strange allies, but they have a common mission: Conquer the West and destroy its Christian foundations.

On January 2, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, D, did something that seemed tone deaf even for a left-wing politician.

She ordered a number of iconic New York sites lit green to celebrate the first-ever Muslim American Heritage Month.

One of those landmarks is the One World Trade Center.

The One World Trade Center exists solely because followers of Islam destroyed the Twin Towers. Today, the Freedom Tower, as it’s also known, stands at Ground Zero, the very site of the heinous terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, where nearly 3,000 Americans perished.

Now, thanks to Hochul, the new tower will be emblazoned in green to celebrate the very religion that destroyed its predecessors.

“Home to the largest Muslim American population in the nation, New York is proud to join in this month-long celebration, recognizing the values, faith and traditions of our Muslim American communities,” Hochul stated. “New York remains committed to being a beacon of hope, tolerance, and inclusivity that celebrates the diversity of its Muslim American population and protects them from Islamophobia, hate, bias, and harm.”

Her statement was followed by 23 politicians and heads of pro-Islamic groups praising the move and all parroting the same sentiments on the supposed centuries-old contributions of Muslims to New York, the need to combat “Islamophobia,” and the resilience of Muslims.

Also illuminated this month are 15 other landmarks including Roosevelt Island Lighthouse, Empire State Plaza, and even Niagara Falls.

The Empire State and Islam seem to be hand-in-hand now as newly elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the city’s first Muslim mayor, took his oath of office on New Year’s Day by swearing in on the Quran.

Mamdani is one of the clearest examples of the left and Islam coming together.

Although he calls himself a Democratic Socialist, Mamdani’s positions are essentially communist. He, along with his new director of the Office to Protect Tenants, has called, for an end to private property ownership, for example, and if there was any doubt, he doubled down during his inaugural speech by promising to use his power to replace “the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.”

Over the last several decades, Islam and the left have discovered allies in each other.

Globalist progressives in Europe opened the borders of various countries to Muslim migration, used taxpayer dollars to set up so-called refugees in luxury hotels and apartments, covered up rampant violent crime and sexual assaults by Islamic migrants, and in some European countries have made it a crime to criticize Islam or immigration policy.

In the U.S., the left has been adamant about fighting the alleged epidemic of Islamophobia since 9/11 and has also been determined to open our borders to millions of Islamic refugees and unvetted illegal immigrants.

Many of these groups have been resettled in places like Michigan, Minnesota, and New York, where they have already radically transformed the demographics, culture, and electoral politics of whole cities and regions.

But aren’t Islam and secular leftism an unlikely pairing? What exactly are those Islamic values and traditions that Hochul is so excited to praise?

Her leftist ideals champion LGBTQ affirmation and celebration while Islam says homosexuality is to be punished by death.

The left seeks to tear down the patriarchy while Islam keeps women enslaved to their husbands, marries off young girls to middle-aged men, forces women to cover themselves, and imposes strict restrictions like those seen in nations in the Middle East. Some include prohibiting women from driving, speaking to men, going to school, or in Afghanistan even talking to other women.

The New York Jewish community has historically voted for progressive Democrats, including Hochul, and yet New York City’s newest mayor has now done away with former Mayor Eric Adams’s executive orders addressing antisemitism, including removing the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism.

Across the United States, pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel students and protesters have targeted not just supporters of the Israeli government but regular, everyday Jews, including students and small business owners.

On Monday, the New York Police Department reported that there were 345 hate crimes against Jewish people in New York City in 2025, up 7 percent from the previous year.

All other types of hate crimes dropped, including Islamophobic hate crimes, of which there were just 43 in 2025.

And, perhaps most obviously, leftism’s chief belief is in secular atheism and the rejection of all religious doctrines, while Islam has created a theocracy in nations across the globe.

Hasn’t the left opposed any public display or even mention of faith in politics, public institutions, or schools for decades?

Weren’t we told that Nativity scenes are an unconstitutional endorsement of religion?

Didn’t the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) just get angry when Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders closed state offices on December 26 so state workers could celebrate Christmas with their families?

And yet Hochul has ordered public buildings and even natural symbols be emblazoned in green lights to celebrate the faith, traditions, and values of a particular religion.

And that is an important point to make. While Americans can debate the merits of national commemorations like Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage month, Women’s History Month, or Asian and Pacific Islanders Heritage month, each of those commemorations center on skin color, sex, or ethnicity — not religion.

Hochul’s proclamation does not seek to celebrate Middle Eastern ethnic groups, it specifically celebrates Islamic values.

The sensible reader may think, “Surely this will anger the FFRF.”

But the sensible reader would be wrong.

While the FFRF was busy forcing a South Carolina school to remove a decoration on a door featuring the Nativity, it eagerly defended Hochul’s decision to light up public buildings and natural wonders in celebration of the followers of Islam.

When a social media user pointed out the hypocrisy in leftist organizations like FFRF opposing Christian heritage expressions but remaining mum on Hochul’s proclamation, FFRF wrote, “Every ‘Christian Heritage Month’ proclamation we have seen goes beyond recognition and declares America a Christian nation, or declares the divinity of Jesus, or some other nonsense. That is why we object.”

But while the FFRF laments the boogeyman of Christian Nationalism at every turn, it defended Mamdani’s decision to take his oath of office on the Quran, a book that encourages not just Islamic nationalism but a global caliphate and the institution of Sharia Law.

Why does the secular left, and even atheist groups like the FFRF, detest any hint of celebration of Christianity or the involvement of practicing Christians in public life but vociferously defends, and even celebrates, the public endorsement of Muslims?

Because Western leftists don’t oppose all religions — just Christianity.

Leftists want to eliminate Christian values, faith, and tradition from the West, and they see Muslims as yet another poor victim of white Christians’ oppression who will be incredibly helpful in accomplishing their goal.

Leftists see Muslims as both allies and tools. However, what they fail to understand is that even as they use Islam, Islam is using them.

Islam is a conquering ideology. It rapidly conquered the Middle East by force more than one thousand years ago. It has now conquered much of Europe not once but twice, first over a millennia ago through military action and occupation, now via invitation and immigration.

In Europe, Islam has wielded jihad to force towns to cancel Christmas markets, an important symbol of Europe’s Christian heritage and culture.

Muslims in Europe have continually targeted white girls and women for sexual assault.

They have also formed no-go zones, creating autonomous areas where European authorities fear to go and common law is not enforced but rather Islamic practices.

In the United States, a number of terrorist plots have been thwarted, including one during the holiday season—but not all. During the 2025 New Year’s celebration in New Orleans, an Islamic terrorist drove a truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street and then engaged in a firefight with police , killing 13 people and injuring another 57.

Why would someone do such a thing? Because just as with 9/11, Islam seeks to dominate, subjugate, and humiliate the populace.

Both Hochul and her Muslim friends didn’t illuminate the One World Trade Center because they are that tone deaf. They did it to send a message.

But as European progressives and Chinese communists have found, leftism and Islam do not mesh.

Amid the pressure of two opposing forces, European nations, including the U.K., Germany, France, and Sweden, have given way by allowing their history and culture to be erased and their people and institutions to be conquered.

Chinese leaders, meanwhile, took a very different strategy with Islam. It enslaved millions of its followers and sent them to live and work in concentration camps.

Leftism and Islam will not coexist much more effectively in the United States.

If the current trend continues, I would predict a result much more like Europe than China.

Every year during 9/11 remembrance ceremonies, Americans say, “Never Forget!” It is supposed to be a promise between us all that we will never allow such a tragedy to occur again on American soil and that we will never forget those who were taken from us and those who gave their lives as heroes.

Hochul herself has publicly affirmed it.

On September 11, 2024, when the Tribute Light blazed in Manhattan, Hochul called it powerful before once again offering that national promise.

Did she somehow forget in less than 18 months? No. She has simply turned her back on that promise to Americans to keep faith with her growing political base of anti-American Marxists and Muslims. In doing so, she is spitting on everyone who died that day and all the soldiers who have died fighting in the Middle East before and since 9/11.

Lighting the One World Trade Center to celebrate Muslim heritage isn’t just tone deaf or even an unconstitutional endorsement of religion — it’s a flag planted on top of the graves of Americans declaring one thing: Islam has conquered New York.
