Ohio pastors say NO to vaccine requirements, sign letter to Biden: ‘We have no king but Jesus’

A group of Ohio pastors recently sent a letter to President Joe Biden stating their opposition to his looming vaccine mandate because it is a tyrannical measure that interferes with individual autonomy and shows a lack of dignity for people created in the image of God.

Quick Facts

As vaccine mandate debates continue to heat up, 101 pastors in north-central Ohio have weighed in with their opposition to the vaccine mandate on both constitutional and theological grounds.

They wrote, “We think it is immoral for persons to be forced to take unproven COVID-19 experimental vaccinations” that are associated with more than 16,000 deaths, 1.6 million reports of adverse events, and at least 125,000 breakthrough COVID infections in vaccinated persons. They also objected to the possibility that, based on a recent Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) study, the vaccines may alter the DNA of those who take the shot. “We believe the Bible when it says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, ‘Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God…’”

The clergy, who say they represent diverse congregations, sent the letter to the President to lament not just the potential adverse effects of taking the shot, but also ethical concerns around its development using aborted fetal cells and its impact on the workforce and people’s ability to pay their bills and feed their families.

They also protested the deception and coercion that the administration has engaged in while implementing vaccine mandates. They stated:

“We would like to note that this unnecessary mandate by your office is in sharp contrast to the statement you made as President-elect on December 4th, 2020 when you stated you would not impose a national vaccine mandate. Ironically, several months prior, on October 7th, 2020 your Vice President Kamala Harris stated she would not take a COVID-19 vaccine if ordered by the President of the United States.”

The letter adds,

“This pattern of insincerity continues when in your September 9th announcement, you publicly stated to our Constitutional Republic: ‘This (federal mandate) is not about freedom or personal choice.’ On the very same day, Vice President Kamala Harris publicly stated the polar-opposite when meeting with the abortion industry saying: ‘When people are able to make choices without government interference for themselves in terms of the well-being of themselves and their family, we are a strong democracy.’ Sadly, human tissue from pre-born infant victims of abortion has been used for the manufacturing of the COVID-19 vaccines.”

The pastors further criticized the administration’s exemption granted to illegal immigrants and refusal to accept natural immunity and other therapeutics.

“In closing, to combat a virus with an overall 99.74% survival rate, the federal government should not impose its will on persons by mandating COVID-19 experimental vaccines and removing other alternative treatments. People should have the ability to make their own health decisions. This unilateral and divisive order is unethical and tantamount to what a totalitarian king would dictate. Furthermore Mr. President, with respect to your vaccine mandate, we respond by saying ‘We have no king but King Jesus.’”

The pastors also note that the vaccines currently being administered under the mandates are the original supplies approved under emergency use authorization and not the Comirnaty vaccine that the FDA has actually approved.

The Biden administration has lied and displayed hypocrisy on this issue. The handling of the vaccine situation has been deceptive at best. Proverbs 29:12 says, “If a ruler pays attention to falsehood, all his ministers become wicked.” Whether it’s the President intentionally telling lies or the people behind him, it is clear the administration has peddled falsehood.

These pastors recognize that America is a republic that is governed by men, but that the power ultimately rests in the people. Christians are called to submit to government, yet when the government operates outside its constitutionally enumerated powers, the people have a responsibility — indeed, God-given rights — to hold their government accountable through letters, protests, and other acts of civil disobedience, as seen during the Civil Rights movement.

As Thomas Jefferson said, “No government can continue good, but under the control of the people.”

Christians also are not required to obey authorities when their laws contradict God’s laws. In this case, many Christians believe vaccines derived from aborted fetal tissue are immoral and that taking such a vaccine would cause them to violate their deeply held religious belief that abortion is the murder of a human being.

Joe Biden professes to be Catholic yet forces a vaccine on many who believe it violates pro-life principles. He professes to defend the Constitution yet tramples over it in order to force unilateral and unconstitutional mandates. The left has taken a dangerous leap with this action for the sake of achieving its goals. Denying principles for political gain is the mark of a weak leader. The Biden administration may coerce many into taking the vaccine, but at what cost?
