These four rulings, which all go a long way towards protecting children, demonstrate what happens when Christians engage in the public square and fight for a more righteous society — not with swords but with truth, not with malice but with love for God’s glory and our neighbor’s good.
Every June, Americans across the political spectrum wait with bated breath and in sweaty anticipation for the nine unelected, philosopher kings that we call “Supreme Court justices” to hand down their latest rulings on the most contested issues facing our nation.
It’s become something of a political, even spiritual, ritual. “Two days left in the term, what’s coming next?!” And while we collectively long for undiluted Solomonic wisdom and pristine jurisprudence to descend from the bench in the form of majority opinions flowing out of the pen of our anointed constitutional custodians in their black robes, let’s be honest — it’s pretty hit or miss.
Last month, another sweltering June in the year of our Lord 2025, it was a hit. For Christians, at least. And conservatives. And reality respecters. And all Americans, really, whether they appreciate it or not.
And I couldn’t help but notice a common thread between four of the most significant cases. They were all textbook “culture war” issues. How about that?
Last I checked (and I check pretty often), we live in an age when many in the Church roll their eyes at the so-called “culture war.” They speak of it as a distraction, a sideshow, a carnal entanglement that pulls us away from the pure Gospel.
From Nashville pulpits to New York Times blog posts, they wag their fingers at the uncultured “culture warriors,” accusing us Philistines of trading the cross of Christ for earthly political power. Anti-culture war crusaders will sneer that “We’ve got too many Christians who are more passionate about winning elections than winning souls.” Or they might warn that culture warring risks reducing the Gospel to a political agenda. Or they may so very winsomely caution against “divisive cultural battles” that obscure the mission of making disciples.
These voices all share a familiar tone: A disdain for Christians who dare to wade into the public square after Sunday service and fight to ensure that righteousness is found not just at the altar but in the halls of Congress, in the texts of laws, and yes, even in Supreme Court rulings as well. They’d have us believe that engaging the world’s wickedness through politics or the courts is somehow beneath the dignity of the Gospel.
But what happens when the Church retreats from the fight? What happens when we leave the national playing field uncontested as the enemies of God march across it? You know the answer(s): Abortion on-demand up until birth, children getting brainwashed with Darwinian propaganda in public schools, teenagers being “transitioned” into believing they’re the opposite sex, men competing in women’s sports, same-sex marriage being legalized, First Amendment freedoms lost, parental rights trampled, and so on down the slippery slope into woke tyranny.
What else happens? I’ll tell you what wouldn’t happen if Christians didn’t fight the culture wars: These four Supreme Court rulings would have never gone our way.
Despite the numerous Soros-funded detractors, these recent decisions demonstrate that the culture war is a fight worth waging. Because it’s not just about the culture — it’s about the Creation. It’s about truth, beauty, and goodness. It’s about honoring Christ by protecting the most vulnerable among us.
Let’s examine four cases where Christian values prevailed and the culture warriors won (you’re welcome):
This case challenged Tennessee’s law banning so-called “gender-affirming care” for minors — puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries that mutilate young bodies in the name of transgender ideology. The Biden administration, along with activist families and a doctor, argued that the law violated the Equal Protection Clause, claiming it discriminated based on sex. Tennessee stood its ground, defending the law as a protection for children from experimental, irreversible drugs and procedures.
On June 18, 2025, the Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, upheld Tennessee’s ban. Chief Justice Roberts, writing for the majority, applied rational basis review, finding no impermissible discrimination. The ruling affirmed that states have the right to protect minors from medical interventions that aren’t backed up with settled scientific evidence.
This is a victory for biblical truth, which declares in Genesis 1:27 that God created us male and female. The transgender agenda, with its assault on God’s design, took a hit, and 25 states with similar laws now stand on firmer constitutional ground. Christians should rightly rejoice at this decision, for we are commanded to protect the vulnerable, not enable their confusion and destruction.
In 2018, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster issued an executive order to cut Planned Parenthood from the state’s Medicaid program, arguing that taxpayer funds should not subsidize abortion providers, even for non-abortion services like cancer screenings. Planned Parenthood and a patient sued, claiming this violated Medicaid’s “free choice of provider” provision.
The case reached the Supreme Court, which on June 26, ruled that individuals lack the right to sue to enforce this provision. Justice Gorsuch’s majority opinion held that only Congress, not courts, should resolve such policy questions.
This 6-3 decision allows South Carolina — and potentially other states — to defund Planned Parenthood, a Goliath in the abortion industry. Psalm 139:13-14 reminds us that God knits us together in the womb, and every step to defund those who profit from slaughtering His unborn image-bearers is a step toward righteousness. This ruling weakens Planned Parenthood’s grip on this deadly trade, especially in red states, and opens the door for more pro-life victories.
Texas passed a law in 2023 requiring age verification for anyone accessing pornographic websites, a measure that is aimed at shielding minors from the soul-destroying filth that floods the Internet. The adult entertainment industry then cried foul, arguing that the new law violated adults’ First Amendment rights.
The Supreme Court, on June 27, upheld the law in a 6-3 decision. Justice Thomas wrote that the law advances the state’s interest in protecting children from explicit content, applying a less stringent standard than the strict scrutiny test. This ruling, grounded in the 1968 precedent of Ginsberg v. New York, affirms that states can impose barriers to keep pornography from young eyes.
With 24 other states enacting similar laws, this decision strengthens efforts to guard childhood innocence, as Christ commands in Matthew 18:6, warning against causing little ones to stumble. Pornography, a gateway to addiction and abuse, faces a new hurdle, and Christians should praise God for this restraint on evil.
In Montgomery County, Maryland, parents — Christian and Muslim alike — challenged a school district’s refusal to allow opt-outs from an English curriculum featuring LGBTQ-themed books like Pride Puppy and Love Violet. These parents argued that mandatory exposure to such materials violated their First Amendment rights to raise their children in accordance with their religious beliefs.
On June 27, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the parents, affirming that public schools cannot force them to accept instruction that undermines their faith. Justice Alito’s majority opinion called out the curriculum’s push for “ideological conformity” on sexuality and gender.
This is a triumph for parental rights, rooted in Deuteronomy 6:7, where God commands parents to teach their children His ways. The homosexual agenda, cloaked in “inclusivity,” seeks to indoctrinate the young, but this ruling empowers parents to say no, protecting the next generation from moral confusion.
These victories are not the end but a beginning. The culture war is far from over, and the radical left, with its hatred for God’s law, will not rest. They’ll regroup, rebrand, and return with new schemes to push transgenderism, abortion, pornography, and sexual perversion into every corner of our land.
However, these Supreme Court wins demonstrate what happens when Christians fight — when we vote for leaders who appoint good judges, when we support organizations like Alliance Defending Freedom who take on righteous causes and fight for them in court, and when we refuse to bow to the spirit of the age.
As Nehemiah 4:14 exhorts, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.”
So, brothers and sisters, let us not grow weary of doing good, nor of the fight for the culture of the country we providentially call home. Ignore the scoffers who call our struggle a distraction. The Gospel is not a retreat from the world but a charge to transform it. We fight not with swords but with truth, not with malice but with love for God’s glory and our neighbor’s good. Keep engaging in the public square. Continue to pray, vote, stand, and speak out — and yes, even to sue when necessary.
The Supreme Court’s rulings last month make this crystal clear: The culture war is worth fighting, and by God’s grace, we can and will win it.
