An attorney general who overrides medical judgment, parental authority, and judicial precedent to force experimental chemical treatments on confused children is openly rebelling against both the constitutional order and God’s created design.
An attorney general is the state’s chief legal officer and charged with enforcing the law, prosecuting fraud, and protecting the legal rights of its citizens. Some use public office to care for the people they serve. Too many, however, increasingly use the power of a clearly defined office to pursue ideological activism.
New York’s attorney general, Letitia James, is one of them.
Since January 2025, James has filed or joined more than 15 lawsuits targeting the Trump administration, challenging everything from immigration enforcement cooperation to the Treasury Department’s financial oversight systems. She campaigned for attorney general pledging to investigate Donald Trump’s real estate business and did just that. Whatever one thinks of those fights, they reflect a pattern: an attorney general who sees her office primarily as a vehicle for progressive political combat.
But she’s not just about getting Trump. In recent years, she twice used the power of her office to sue pro-life pregnancy centers to force them to stop offering — and even mentioning — the option of abortion pill reversal treatment; in both cases, she ended up getting blocked and reprimanded by three different federal courts.
Undaunted, James has now turned her power against one of Manhattan’s largest hospitals for also following the science. NYU Langone Health is a $15 billion institution employing 54,000 people, that runs one of the nation’s leading cancer centers and is ranked among the top hospitals in the United States.
Recently, though, it discontinued a small outpatient program administering puberty blockers and hormone treatments to minors with gender dysphoria, a program representing a fraction of the institution’s patient volume. More than 40 hospitals nationwide made the same call after the Trump administration warned that federal funding would be pulled from any institution performing these experimental interventions on children. Each exercised medical discretion and stopped.
James responded by pulling rank. Her office sent NYU Langone a letter on February 25 declaring that ending the program violated the state’s anti-discrimination laws. She gave the hospital 10 days to reinstate it. When it did not comply, she promised “further action.”
James’s response was not persuasion. It was a threat.
She is using the power of her office to force doctors to act against their own judgment. That is not protection. That is compulsion.
The Claim Doesn’t Hold Up
James’s legal demand rests on one assertion: that stopping these treatments constitutes illegal discrimination. The Department of Justice (DOJ), the U.S. Supreme Court, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and not a single one agrees with her.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche sent James a letter declaring that the DOJ “will not sit idly by” while she attempts to force these procedures on children. Anti-discrimination law, Blanche wrote, “cannot be used to force NYU Langone to perform sex-rejecting procedures on children,” adding, “NYU Langone’s exercise of its sound discretion to not provide such services and procedures does not constitute discrimination on any of these grounds.”
The Supreme Court addressed the underlying question. In the case of United States v. Skrmetti, decided on June 18, 2025, the Court ruled 6–3 to uphold Tennessee’s ban on puberty blockers and hormone therapy for minors with gender dysphoria, finding no violation of the Equal Protection Clause. NYU Langone’s policy follows the same logic — declining to treat a diagnosis, not refusing a class of patients.
Blanche cited Skrmetti as controlling precedent.
CMS administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz called it “irresponsible and false” to label these interventions as definitively medically necessary.
In fact, the evidence base in this area is increasingly being reexamined. NHS England concluded that there is not enough evidence to support the safety or clinical and cost effectiveness of puberty suppressing hormones, and it moved toward a research based approach instead. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons likewise stated in February 2026 that there is insufficient evidence demonstrating a favorable risk-benefit ratio for the pathway of gender-related endocrine and surgical interventions in children and adolescents, and it recommended delaying gender-related breast, chest, genital, and facial surgery until at least age 19. That alone undercuts the claim that these interventions are medically settled, unquestionably necessary, or beyond serious dispute.
Puberty blockers suppress natural development, stunting bone growth and other processes vital to long-term health. Hormone treatments alter physiology, including vocal cords, hair growth, and organ function, in ways that are irreversible.
In other words, the medical community is not settled on the long-term consequences or the protocols of these unproven, experimental treatments, but James is acting as if it is.
The Illogic Behind the Compulsion
None of this is accidental. To understand why James keeps pressing despite legal setbacks, you must understand the worldview driving her.
This gnostic worldview, which holds that the inner self supersedes the body God made, does not stop at identity. It transfers authority. From parent to state. From physician to bureaucrat. From God to government.
To James’s thinking, a hospital that declines to prescribe puberty blockers is not exercising judgment, it is committing discrimination. Parents who resist medical intervention are not protecting their child but harming him. Law becomes a tool not of justice but of ideological enforcement.
That is the real conflict. Not a legal dispute about anti-discrimination statutes but a contest over who holds sovereignty over children, and behind that contest, a deeper question: Are children created by God, or are they owned by the state?
The Bible is very clear on this. Children are image bearers of God (Genesis 1:27), created male and female, not assigned by culture but established in creation. They are a heritage from the Lord entrusted to their parents (Psalm 127:3). Parental authority is not granted by the state; it is a stewardship assigned by God.
In other words, gender ideology does not merely challenge a policy position. It targets the specific truth that human beings are made, not self-made. Their Maker’s design is good.
Every governing power that seeks to override that design isn’t just overreaching legally. It is rebelling against the order God built into creation.
The Church Cannot Remain Silent
There is a word that describes a government that overrides medical judgment, parental authority, and judicial precedent to force experimental chemical treatments on children: tyrannical. And the Church has never been called to make peace with tyranny.
The prophet Isaiah warned those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness (Isaiah 5:20). Parents are charged with training up a child in the way he should go (Proverbs 22:6). That charge was given by God, not delegated to the state. Letitia James is not defending the vulnerable; she is using the vulnerable as cover for a campaign that risks permanent harm to children who cannot yet fully grasp what is being done to them.
The children sitting in your church are not insulated from this. The ideology driving James’s campaign is in schools, healthcare systems, and state legislatures. Silence is not neutrality — it is surrender. Engage your local school boards. Refuse to be silenced in the public square. Protect the children under your care. Build the institutions (schools, clinics, legal advocates) that do not bow to this pressure.
Scripture warns that our adversary prowls like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). He does not always come with fangs bared. Sometimes he comes with a legal brief, a filing deadline, and the full authority of a state attorney general’s office.
This dragon is not hiding. It is coming for your children.
