When President Trump stood in front of the World Economic Forum and reasserted America’s national sovereignty, control over critical resources, and refusal to bow down to globalist ideology, he was declaring that America will once again follow God’s design for how nations operate, not the Great Reset.
This article is a lightly edited transcript of the “Here’s the Point” podcast by Ryan Helfenbein, executive director of the Standing for Freedom Center.
President Trump just returned from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he announced a framework for what he calls the “deal of the century” for Greenland and the Arctic Circle. But this wasn’t just about rare earth minerals and military bases. This was Trump standing in the very birthplace of the Great Reset and declaring it dead on arrival.
On January 21, following meetings with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, President Trump unveiled the framework of a future deal for Greenland and described it on Truth Social as coming from “a very productive meeting” and later told CNBC it gives America “everything we needed” for national and international security at “no cost.”
The framework includes permanent and total U.S. access to Greenland with no time limit. It enhances U.S. military presence and security arrangements, building on the existing 1951 U.S.-Denmark Defense Agreement. The deal focuses on Arctic security to counter threats from Russia and China, potentially integrating with Trump’s proposed Golden Dome missile defense system. Critically, it includes access to Greenland’s vast rare earth minerals, the eighth largest in the world. These minerals are vital for technology, electric vehicles, missile defense systems and reducing China’s stranglehold on global rare earth processing.
Trump confirmed the deal involves “mineral rights” for the U.S. and NATO allies, describing it as putting “everybody in a really good position, especially as it pertains to security and to minerals.”
Denmark still retains sovereignty over Greenland. There’s no transfer of ownership or annexation. But America has what we needed all along: permanent access, enhanced defense cooperation, and critical mineral rights. In exchange, Trump backed off threats of tariffs on European allies and completely ruled out military force to acquire Greenland, something he never really once considered doing.
But Trump’s message at Davos went far beyond Greenland. He delivered a stark warning to Europe about the existential threats it faces from within. Trump continued the same message that Vice President J.D. Vance delivered in his Munich speech just last year: The West must stand strong against the ideology that seeks to defeat it from within and refuse to crumble to Islamic immigration and intimidation.
In February 2025, Vance warned European leaders that “the threat from within is the greatest risk to the continent.” He specifically cautioned that European nuclear arsenals could come under control of Islamists if current demographic and political trends continue.
Vance said, “The West does not need to lose its values, culture, or surrender to Islam.”
Trump echoed this idea at Davos, telling European leaders they must defend their civilization against both external threats and internal decay.
Meanwhile, NATO allies are increasingly concerned about their longstanding relationship with the U.S. and the resolve required to end the Russian-Ukraine war. Many European nations are looking to strengthen their defenses without relying so heavily on the NATO partnership — a shift Trump encouraged while demanding they pull their weight.
The timing and location of all of this matter enormously. Davos is where Klaus Schwab and the global elites launched the Great Reset in 2020 — their vision for a post-COVID world built on stakeholder capitalism, environmental social governance (ESG), and unprecedented government control.
The World Economic Forum has become synonymous with globalist overreach, ESG, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), woke politics, and Western surrender, where unelected elites gather annually to decide the future fate of independent and sovereign nations without any input from the people who actually live there.
Trump standing in that very forum and announcing America’s reassertion of sovereignty, control over critical resources, and refusal to bow down to globalist ideology was not coincidental — it was intentional. This was Trump declaring that America will not participate in the Great Reset.
Instead, America will lead a Great Awakening of national sovereignty, energy independence, and Western strength. So how should we think about all of this? Four points.
First, we must recognize that national sovereignty is not opposed to Christian faith — it’s essential to it.
God established nations with borders and identities. We see this in Acts 17:26. He appointed a time for each and for all. The globalist vision of erasing national distinctions and submitting to unelected international bodies is fundamentally at odds with biblical order. Trump’s defense of American sovereignty and his call for European nations to defend their own is not nationalism run amok. It’s nations operating as God designed.
Second, Europe’s crisis is a warning to America.
When nations abandon their Christian heritage, reject the Gospel, and replace it with secular pluralism or with mass Islamic immigration without cultural or political assimilation, civilizational collapse is inevitable. Vance was right: The threat from within is greater than any external enemy. Europe is learning this the hard way. America must not repeat their mistake.
Third, access to critical minerals and Arctic security are not merely economic or military issues — they’re a moral imperative.
China’s control over rare earth minerals gives them leverage over all Western defense and technology. Russia’s Arctic expansion threatens freedom. Securing Greenland’s resources ensures America can defend liberty for the West without dependence on adversaries. This is shrewd political maneuvering for the protection of all free people.
Finally, this framework represents a turning point, but only if European nations have the courage to implement it.
Western leaders must reject globalist control, defend their nations’ sovereignty, and stand firm against ideological and demographic collapse that has taken shape over the last two decades. We need revival in America and in Europe because only the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which formed the West, can save the West.
Trump went to Davos and declared that as for America, the Great Reset is over. America is back. The West will prevail but only if it fights. Pray that God give us the courage and the leadership to fight, fight, fight.
