Summit Ministries has released a new e-book that exposes the transgender industry and is designed to help readers better understand the political and financial motivations driving the rise of this radical ideology.
Dr. Jeff Myers, president of Summit Ministries, and Brandon Showalter, a reporter for the Christian Post, are the co-authors of Exposing the Gender Lie: How to Protect Children and Teens from the Transgender Industry’s False Ideology. The book is available for a free download from Summit Ministries’ website. Summit Ministries works “on helping people approach and understand life from a Christian, biblical worldview.”
In the introduction, the two authors discuss their goals for readers:
“We hope that as you engage the forthcoming pages, you will be equipped to address these tough and thorny themes with compassion for struggling people and with the uncompromised conviction that the truth must be proclaimed and defended. We will tackle why transgenderism is a medical (and social) scandal, discuss the history of gender ideology, show how this ideology twists language and distorts reality, and explore what a healthy and flourishing vision for human sexuality looks like in contradistinction to gender ideology.”
The book also tries to help parents and Christians understand why there has been this recent overwhelming push to convince children and young adults that people can change their sex and that there are more than two biological sexes. It also showcases the negative impact that transgender activism is having on family stability, education, parental rights, and the mental and physical health of children.
“Families are distraught and confused. Americans as a whole…seem baffled by the whole issue,” the authors write.
In fact, polling done by Summit Ministries in April 2022 found that nearly 70 percent of Americans do not believe that transgender identity is a normal, healthy lifestyle and 90 percent do not believe that children should be allowed to undergo any medical treatment or surgery that would permanently alter their bodies. However, 34 percent of respondents also say that they stay silent on the issue out of fear of offending others.
That’s to be expected since gender idealogues want people to feel afraid and reticent, according to Myers and Showalter. They write,
“The confusion that gender ideology creates is a feature, not a bug of their entire project. If none of this makes any reasonable sense to you, well, that is precisely the point. At the root, we are dealing with a postmodern rejection of reality that is bound to fail. The question is: How many lives must be shattered by it before it does?”
The authors declare that transgenderism is an industry. Myers told The Daily Signal Podcast that the transgender movement “is run by organizations intending to use it to elevate themselves into positions of political power and to earn obscene profits.”
They report that Lupron has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for gender-affirming experiments in children, but drug companies push it and doctors prescribe it because it’s so lucrative. When Lupron is given to a patient to treat prostate cancer (a use approved by the FDA), for example, the company makes around $7,000 to $8,000 a year, but when Lupron is used on children to stop puberty, it makes $30,000 per year. And the number of children being prescribed off-label puberty blockers has risen dramatically over the last decade, especially in the last five years, despite the fact that there are no studies providing long-term safety data.
According to the authors, market analysts predict that the transgender industry will top $2 billion next year. Myers says that pharmaceutical companies spent about $700 million lobbying Congress last year, nearly three times more than any industry. He says the company that makes Lupron also spent millions lobbying Congress.
Money and influence aren’t the only motivations behind the push for transgender views. The authors argue that the goal is the erasure of truth. Myers explains,
“If there’s no such thing as truth versus falsehood, then what other things are people going to look at and say, ‘Well, we know that to be true for sure,’ and that would be male and female, right? So, if you can tear down the idea that there is such a thing as male and female or that those are relevant categories, then you can completely destroy truth.”
He warned that if you can get children to believe there is no difference between boys and girls “you can indoctrinate them to believe anything.”
Myers and Showalter wrote this book to help defend and protect children from those who would profit through their harm. They also wrote it to help people effectively respond to a movement that has taken so many by surprise. Their effort here obeys what the Apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote to Timothy,
“I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”

The transgender debate is often seen as an issue of politics, or a medical concern for doctors and psychologists to debate, or even a private decision between parents, children, and doctors, but it’s much more than that.
Transgenderism is a problem that Christians must deal with. At stake are the health, safety, and hearts of children and teenagers. They need someone to defend them.
Transgenderism is a radical ideology that undermines truth. God’s Word teaches that God created humans as man and woman, so gender ideology is a usurpation of God’s design and God’s truth. It seeks to throw off not just the idea that there are objective facts but also the recognition that God is sovereign and that He determines what is right and true.
It isn’t an option to sit back and let the transgender industry devour children and plunge society into a dark age. It isn’t an option to sit back and let philosophies that oppose God go unchallenged. These authors are doing great work. Everyone should download their book and get fully educated on exactly what is happening with this radical ideology, who is behind it, and why they are pushing it so frantically. Then, everyone must take up the fight to protect children by courageously speaking truth to all who need to hear it.
