YWCA issues “privilege self-assessment” as Critical Race Theory and intersectionality gain a foothold across the country

If you’re male, have never been a waiter, have never had a roommate, have heterosexual parents, or have never been teased about your weight, you are incredibly privileged and should be ashamed, according to the YWCA’s privilege self-assessment, yet another example of how Critical Race Theory (CRT) and other Marxist teachings wrapped in social justice packaging are negatively influencing American society.

Most people would not consider being comfortable with the sex they were born as, never having had an addiction, not having student loans, never having been raped, or having never considered suicide to be signs of privilege. If you are one of the mistaken masses, the YWCA is here to educate you with a checklist that shows just how much privilege you have and why you should feel badly about that.


At one time privilege was reserved for member of the wealthiest class, but as first universities and now K-12 schools, corporations, churches, and other organizations have bought into CRT and intersectionality, privilege became synonymous with being white, male, heterosexual, and Christian. As is the case with Marxist theories and tactics, however, these ideologies have continued to evolve, or better yet devolve, to encompass a widening array of groups who are viewed as oppressed.


The YWCA’s list is a perfect example of how just far the concept of privilege has gone. Simple life choices such as having worked in an unpaid internship or graduating high school are considered privilege. If others consider you to be physically attractive, that is also privilege. Moreover, if you’ve never tried to change your gender, don’t rely on public transportation, never done your own taxes, never spent your Spring Break abroad, and have always had cable or Internet, you are also quite privileged.


It seems funny on first glance, but the list is designed to paint a picture of America as a place of lawlessness, oppression, and downright nastiness. For example, you are considered a privileged person if you have never been raped, your parents are still living, you’ve never been addicted to drugs, you’ve never tried to commit suicide, you’ve never been called a terrorist, or you’ve never been attacked for your religious beliefs.


America is not a place where the majority of people are raped or commit suicide or are attacked for their religious beliefs, even if it should never be considered privilege to have not experienced these horrors.


The YWCA was once known as the Young Women’s Christian Association, but changed its name in 2015. Now the organization is “dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.”


Their website states,


“YWCA has been at the forefront of the most pressing social movements for more than 160 years — from voting rights to civil rights, from affordable housing to pay equity, from violence prevention to health care reform. Today, we combine programming and advocacy in order to generate institutional change in three key areas: racial justice and civil rights, empowerment and economic advancement of women and girls, and health and safety of women and girls.”


The YWCA is by no means the only organization adopting the tenets of critical race theory and intersectionality. The YWCA has actually partnered with one of the country’s largest and most beloved corporations, Disney.


Journalist Christopher F. Rufo obtained documents from whistleblowers proving that “the happiest place on earth” is working to become “the wokest place on earth.”


Disney’s program called “Reimagine Tomorrow” is essentially an indoctrination course in CRT and intersectionality. One module entitled “Allyship for Race Consciousness” tells employees that the United States has a “long history of systemic racism and transphobia” and that white employees must “work through feelings of guilt, shame, and defensiveness to understand what is beneath them and what needs to be healed.”


Disney says employees can fight racism by challenging “colorblind ideologies and rhetoric such as ‘All lives Matter’ or ‘I don’t see color’” and that they must “listen with empathy [to] Black colleagues” and “not question or debate Black colleagues’ lived experience.”


One module called “What Can I Do About Racism?” instructs employees to reject “equality” and a focus on “equal treatment and access to opportunities,” in exchange for “equity” and “equality of outcome.”


In Disney’s “21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge,” employees complete an exercise called “How to Tell If You Have White Fragility.” In the exercise, employees are taught that ideas such as “I was taught to treat everyone the same” are evidence of internalized racism and white fragility. They are also told to pivot from a white dominant culture to “something different.” Examples of “white dominant culture” include “competition,” power hoarding,” “comfort with predominantly white leadership,” “individualism,” “timeliness,” and “comprehensiveness.” According to Disney, these perpetuate white supremacy.


In “75 Things White People Can Do for Racial Justice” and “Your Kids Are Not Too Young to Talk About Race,” employees are told to “defund the police,” “participate in reparations,” “decolonize your bookshelf,” “don’t gentrify neighborhoods,” “find and join a local ‘white space,’” and “donate to anti-white supremacy work such as your local Black Lives Matter Chapter.”


Parents are also told to commit to “raising race-consciousness in children,” saying that babies engage in racial discrimination by the age of three months and that white children are “strongly biased in favor of whiteness” by age four.



Schools are, of course, also teaching children CRT, and several states are moving to block the teaching of the divisive ideology, including Oklahoma. But members of the Oklahoma City Public Schools Board of Education are now claiming that the state’s law is an attempt to “protect white fragility.”


That is how proponents of CRT and intersectionality deal with criticisms of their views, by shaming opponents through the use of labels like “white fragility” or “transphobic” or “sexist” rather than to debate the merits, or lack thereof, of their ideology.


Any ideology telling parents that they need to make their children more conscious of race and that three-month-old babies are racist is pointless and preposterous. CRT doesn’t combat racism. It fuels the leftist agenda and makes “anti-racism” and “social justice” proponents such as Black Lives Matter lots of money. It is a political and social strategy that works to tear at the fabric of our nation and sow division. It should be wholly rejected, and as companies and influencers like Disney incorporate it into their products and messaging, they should be too.
