Conservative Republican Elected First Black Lt. Governor of North Carolina

Mark Robinson, known as an avid defender of the Second Amendment, has been elected as North Carolina’s first black Lieutenant Governor.

Robinson, a Republican, defeated N.C. Rep. Yvonne Lewis Holley (D), who would have been the first black woman elected to the office. Robinson won by a 52 to 48percent margin.

Robinson first came to political prominence in 2018 when he gave an impassioned speech in support of the Second Amendment at a Greensboro City Council meeting. The video went viral, eventually garnering more than 150 million views. He has since become an advocate for gun rights and served on the National Rifle Association’s National Outreach Board. He has also appeared on Fox News and been interviewed by Lara Trump.

The lieutenant-governor-elect is not only pro-Second Amendment but supports other causes important to conservatives, including the pro-life movement, religious liberty, and school choice.

The Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List, a pro-life organization, endorsed Robinson prior to the election stating,

“Mark Robinson is the ideal pro-life leader to serve as North Carolina’s next lieutenant governor,” said SBA List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser, a North Carolina native. “Mark has experienced hardship, but also the transformative power of love and faith. One of ten siblings, born into poverty and growing up in and out of foster care, he has a clear-eyed view of our current system but understands it should not translate into a death sentence for the unborn. He is a compelling advocate for women and families and will work to build a culture of life so every child has the opportunity to survive and thrive. In contrast, Yvonne Holley is backed by radical pro-abortion groups and supports abortion on demand through birth without any limits — far too extreme for this deeply pro-life state. We are proud to endorse Mark and urge all North Carolinians to cast their vote for him by November 3.”

In a pre-election questionnaire, Robinson responded that he “strongly agreed” that life begins at conception and deserves protection and that under no circumstances should abortion be allowed. Regarding religious liberty, Robinson answered that he “strongly agreed” governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman and “strongly agreed” that religious liberty is at risk and deserves protection.

When asked to describe his spiritual beliefs, Robinson answered: “Jesus Christ is the savior of humanity and my own personal savior. He is the only way to Heaven.”

He stated that his three legislative priorities were “Pro-life legislation, educational policies that prevent and stop the indoctrination of our children with liberal social belies, and veterans care.”

Robinson’s campaign website states that as the ninth of ten children, he grew up poor with an abusive, alcoholic father and spent time in the foster care system. Eventually, he was returned to his mother, a devout Christian who taught him the Bible. He served in the Army Reserves before taking a job working in a furniture factory. When the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) led to severe wage cuts, he left and worked in the restaurant industry. Later, he worked in his wife’s day care center before returning to work in a furniture factory.

Robinson is the definition of a political “outsider.” As many Americans have tired of “the establishment,” Robinson is an ordinary American who has spent time doing various jobs and has experienced everyday problems such as NAFTA’s effect on manufacturing jobs.

In North Carolina, the lieutenant governor is elected separately from the governor, so Robinson will serve alongside Democrat incumbent Gov. Roy Cooper, who won re-election.
