Antifa vandalizes church that serves the homeless

Nathan Skates /

Last week, Antifa vandalized a church in Portland, Ore., forcing it to close and suspend the services they provide to the homeless community.

St. Andre Bessette Church provides meals and shelter for the city’s homeless, which is something everyone can support – but, perhaps, Antifa. During the riots, which included approximately100 Antifa members, a group of intentionally broke the glass windows of the church.

The church has a reputation for serving hundreds of homeless people each day by providing meals, shelter, showers, hygiene kits, and more. These acts of kindness and church services will all be canceled until further notice.

Priest Tom Gaughan said, “The building is compromised because of this, so unfortunately the actions of this one individual has forced us to cease our outreach, and its hundreds of people we normally give food to, we are not able to because I don’t feel like my staff is safe.”

Video shows a homeless man sleeping outside of the church when the rioters showed up and started destroying the windows. The homeless man fled, leaving his blanket and possessions behind.

Rioting in Portland has been going on for several months and had to be quelled by the National Guard the night of the St. Andre Bessette incident.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) said,

“Two groups gathered in downtown Portland last night. One group demonstrated peacefully for hours by the waterfront. Their clarion call advocating for racial justice and Black lives has resonated with Oregonians and driven real reform over the past several months. Unfortunately, a second group of self-styled anarchist protesters, some armed, also marched downtown last night, with no discernible goal other than to cause violence and vandalism.”

Brown described the rioting as “acts of privilege.” After activating the National Guard, she said, “These are Oregonians like you and me, who have volunteered their time and taken leave from their jobs and their families to keep the streets of Portland safe. For weeks, Oregonians have called for an end to the violence. I will continue to do everything in my power to keep the peace in Portland and make sure that people can make their voices heard safely.”

Antifa continues to show that it does not care about justice of any kind. Antifa isn’t about opposing fascism, it is fascism. The group is a terrorist organization that seeks to destroy and has no rational goal.

At the first presidential debate, former Vice President Joe Biden referred to Antifa as “an idea, not an organization,” and refused to condemn it, citing remarks by FBI Director Christopher Wray during recent testimony before Congress. Biden failed to mention that Wray also said in his remarks,

“Antifa is a real thing. It’s not a group or an organization. It’s a movement, or an ideology may be one way of thinking of it, and we have quite a number, and I’ve said this quite consistently since my first time appearing before this committee, we have any number of properly predicated investigations into what we would describe as violent anarchist extremists and some of those individuals self-identify with Antifa.”

Gov. Brown’s decision to activate the National Guard could mean that she is no longer going to tolerate rioting. One can only hope that if Biden does become the next President, both he and Brown will take Antifa more seriously than they have prior to the election. The innocent people living in Portland would probably appreciate it.
